On Wednesday morning, Hizbollah, a Lebanese Islamist group, attacked Israeli positions on the border killing at least seven and capturing two Israeli soldiers. The group said the attack was intended to force Israel to release prisoners. Israel delivered retaliatory air strikes on Hizbollah targets and Lebanese civilian infrastructure, inflicting losses of life, including civilians.
"Moscow is seriously concerned about a sharp increase in tensions and clashes on the Israeli-Lebanese border, which could undermine the fragile stability in Lebanon and exacerbate the situation in the entire region, which is already inflamed by the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation," the ministry said.
The ministry said Russia would engage bilateral and multilateral channels to reach a political solution.
