20 people in serious condition after Siberia plane crash - minister

Twenty victims of a horrific air crash in Siberia Sunday that claimed at least 124 lives remain in a serious condition, the Russian health minister said Monday.
ST. PETERSBURG, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - Twenty victims of a horrific air crash in Siberia Sunday that claimed at least 124 lives remain in a serious condition, the Russian health minister said Monday.

A plane owned by Novosibirsk-based S7, formerly Sibir airline, was making a routine flight from Moscow to Irkutsk, the home airport for popular tourist destination Lake Baikal. It veered off the runway upon landing and burst into flames after hitting a concrete wall and plowing into garages.

Mikhail Zurabov said, "The losses are not yet irreparable. Twenty people remain in a grave condition, including six children."

He said 66 people required medical assistance after the plane crash, and that 64 people including eight children were being treated at hospitals in Irkutsk.

The health minister added that two specially-equipped ambulances had been delivered to Irkutsk transport people with severe burns to other medical centers.
