KIEV, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's West-leaning "orange" coalition on Monday failed to adopt a resolution formalizing its dissolution following one party's defection to a pro-Russian camp.
The coalition, formed on June 22 by the pro-presidential Our Ukraine party, the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and the Socialist Party, collapsed last week as the Socialists withdrew to team up with the Party of Regions and the Communists. Their decision was prompted by the surprise election of Socialist leader Oleksandr Moroz as parliament speaker, a position originally promised to a member of Yushchenko's party.
"A general meeting [of the coalition members] was unable to make a single decision because half of the Socialist faction failed to attend this meeting," said Roman Zvarych, a deputy leader of the Our Ukraine faction.
However, he said Our Ukraine and the Tymoshenko Bloc had "worked out a plan of action to be implemented at parliament's plenary session Tuesday." He declined to give details, but said the "orange" allies were preparing a surprise for their political opponents.
Earlier, Moroz said Tuesday's session would see the "orange" coalition formally disband itself and the new leftist coalition take over.
