MOSCOW, June 25 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian carrier rocket has delivered a military satellite into orbit, Russia's federal space agency said Sunday.

A Cyclone-2 light carrier rocket with a Kosmos satellite took off the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan at 08:00 a.m. Moscow time (04:00 a.m. GMT). The satellite separated from the rocket at 08:05 a.m. Moscow time (04:05 a.m. GMT) but at least 1.5 hours will be required to confirm the satellite's delivery into orbit in the nominal regime, the agency said.

"The launch of the Kosmos satellite aims to build up the orbital group of military designation. This will be the second satellite launched in 2006 in the interests of the Defense Ministry," a spokesman for the customer of the satellite's launch said.
