MOSCOW, June 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia confirms the continuity of its policy of consistently developing friendly inter-state relations with the Republic of Serbia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

In a referendum held May 21, Montenegro voted to break away from its union with Serbia, completing the breakup of the former Yugoslavia.

Moscow takes note that after the Republic of Montenegro declared its independence, the Republic of Serbia, pursuant to Article 60 of the Constitutional Charter of Serbia and Montenegro and decisions of the Serbian parliament, succeeds the legal status of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro and performs in full the rights and obligations of Serbia-Montenegro under international law, and also continues its membership in international organizations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement placed on its website.

"In this connection, Russia confirms the continuity of its policy aimed at the consistent development of friendly inter-state relations with the Republic of Serbia," the document said.
