Russian speaker urges increased role of planning in economy

MOSCOW, June 11 (RIA Novosti) - The role of planning in the country's economic development should be increased, the speaker of the lower house of Russia's parliament said Sunday.

Boris Gryzlov said all central tasks facing the Russian economy must be solved within the framework of a single strategy envisaging clear-cut targets of the country's development.

"The role of planning in defining the key areas of the country's development, including the economic sphere, must, no doubt, be increased," Boris Gryzlov said.

According to Gryzlov, large corporations, including transnational companies, operated most of all successfully, when they pursued their corporate strategies and responded to current market needs, instead of acting chaotically.

"Corporations know what they want to achieve tomorrow and, proceeding from this, they define their goals for a perspective. The ability to link every-day operations with strategic targets is one of the components of success in business. This principle can be fully applied to the state," Gryzlov said.
