ST. PETERSBURG, June 10 (RIA Novosti) - Talks on a pilot vaccination project addressed at the G8 finance ministers' meeting in St. Petersburg should continue, the Italian minister of economy and finance said Saturday.

Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa said the issue should be discussed and moved forward.

Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said earlier that one of the Russian initiatives discussed at the finance ministers' meeting was a pilot project to finance purchases of vaccines, in particular against malaria and pneumococcal infections.

The Italian minister said certain G8 countries did not support the project, but that the issue remained open and could be addressed at the G8 summit in mid-July.

Russia this year holds the rotating presidency of the G8 - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States - and will host the annual G8 summit for the first time in mid-July in St. Petersburg.
