ASTANA, May 30 (RIA Novosti) - Firefighters have extinguished a fire that broke out Tuesday in a skyscraper housing several ministries in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, an emergency situations official said.

"It took about from one and a half to two hours to localize and extinguish the fire," Emergency Situations Minister Shalbai Kulmukhanov said. "There were no casualties. People were evacuated within 5-8 minutes."

Paramedics said earlier a woman had suffered carbon monoxide poisoning, and two other people had been injured by falling shards of glass.

The fire started on the 27th floor of the 38-story building, which houses the ministries of transport and communications, culture and information and tourism and sports.

The minister added that 130 firefighters and 25 specially equipped vehicles were involved in the effort to put out the blaze.
