TEHRAN, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - Iran's controversial president will not be traveling to Germany to support the national team during the 2006 soccer World Cup, a government spokesman said Monday.

The Iranian Soccer Federation also denied media reports that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was planning to arrive in Germany for the tournament, which kicks off June 9.

Spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham said the president "loved and played soccer" but would hardly have enough time to watch matches.

Ahmadinejad said earlier he believed in the national team and was confident it would be successful if it played in the Iranian style.

Iran will face Mexico, Portugal and Angola in the group stage.
