SOCHI, May 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is interested in developing relations with the United States, and is certain that Washington is also set on cooperation, President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

"The United States is our major partner, and we value relations with that country," Vladimir Putin said. "I am confident that many political forces in the U.S. have the same approach to relations with Russia."

Putin said the U.S. was an important partner for Russia in disarmament, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and their components, and missile technologies.

"There are many other spheres, including the fight against terrorism, where partnership between Russia and the U.S. is irreplaceable," he said.

Putin said a large number of Russia's partners in the U.S. shared this commitment, including U.S. President George W. Bush.
