Fedotov, 63, was appointed acting head coach following Alexander Starkov's resignation April 24 after a poor start and amid internal conflicts fueled by captain Dmitry Alenichev's interview with a popular sports newspaper.
Under Fedotov, Spartak has gone unbeaten in its last four games in the Russian Premier League. The club also named former Spartak striker Sergei Radionov as Fedotov's assistant.
Fedotov played for CSKA Moscow from 1960-1975, scoring 92 goals in 382 games in the Soviet Union's national championships, as well as four goals in 22 matches for the national team.
Stanislav Cherchesov, a former Spartak goalie and former coach of Austria's FC Tirol, has been appointed as club manager and team sports director, starting June 1.
Both Fedotov and Cherchesov are expected to sign their contracts, which run through the end of the 2007 season, later this week following a Spartak board meeting, the club said.
