TBILISI, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - Five Russian peacekeepers were killed and another six wounded when the armored personnel carrier they were traveling overturned in the troubled Georgian region of Abkhazia, a local official said.
The official said the accident happened on a road leading out of the town of Gali in the formerly breakaway region, which is located in the northwest of Georgia. The wounded soldiers have been taken to the hospital in the regional capital, Sukhumi.
The regional official said it appeared the driver had lost control of the APV, and that there had been no collision involved.
The peacekeeping mission headquarters has yet to comment on the incident, although its press service said senior officers were at the scene of the accident.
