Men's singles:

- Nikolay Davidenko, seeded No. 6 for the tournament, advanced to the third round by defeating Fernando Verdasco of Spain 6-1, 3-6, 6-0

- Marat Safin failed to advance to the third round, losing to Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo of Spain 6-0, 6-7, 6-7

* Vasily Mosin won gold in the men's double-trap competition at the ISSF World Cup round in Kerrville, United States, with a total of 189 points. Hakan Dahlby of Sweden took silver with 185 points, beating Richard Faulds of the UK on extra shots

* Svetlana Demina won silver in the women's skeet competition at the ISSF World Cup round with 91 points, losing to winner Connie Smotek of the U.S. on extra shots. Danka Bartekova of Slovakia took bronze with 90 points

* CSKA Moscow will face Spartak Moscow in the Russian Cup 2005/2006 soccer final.
