TALLINN, May 9 (RIA Novosti) - Estonia's Constitutional Party, which expresses the interests of the country's Russian speakers, condemned Tuesday the defense minister's participation in a rally of Nazi collaborators.

Defense Minister Jurgen Ligi took part Monday in a rally of veterans who fought in World War II on the side of Nazi Germany. He said they should be recognized as "fighters for Estonia's independence."

Party chairman Andrei Zarenkov, who is also the secretary of Estonia's anti-fascist committee, said: "The Estonian defense minister's participation in this event clearly shows us who is behind it. The country's political elite, not common people, is continuing this policy."

Zarenkov said he hoped the actions of the Estonian leadership would receive proper response from European countries.
