Maskhadov family asks Finland for political asylum

The family of Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov, killed in a security operation by Russia's FSB in March 2005, asked Finland for political asylum, a Helsinki-based Caucasus organization said Tuesday.

HELSINKI, May 9 (RIA Novosti) - The family of Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov, killed in a security operation by Russia's FSB in March 2005, asked Finland for political asylum, a Helsinki-based Caucasus organization said Tuesday.

According to Finland-Caucasus, Maskhadov's family are living in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku.

Finnish media said the presidential chancellery had confirmed the request for asylum but had made no comments yet.
