MOSCOW, May 9 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin thanked Tuesday Russian WWII veterans for their feat of valor during the war and called on the international community to join efforts in the face of new threats.

Speaking during a military parade at Moscow's Red Square dedicated to the 61st anniversary of the Great Victory, the president said that the defeat of fascism should serve as a lesson and a warning to those who incite race hate and xenophobia.

"Those who attempt to raise the downtrodden Nazi banners, those who incite race hate, extremism, xenophobia, lead the world into a deadlock of senseless bloodshed and violence," Putin said. "The solidarity of the peoples of the world facing today's threats remains the decisive and invaluable resource."
