SibirTelecom posts 150% y-o-y net profit increase for 1Q06

MOSCOW, May 2 (RIA Novosti) - SibirTelecom (RTS: ENCO) announced Tuesday that its net profit calculated to Russian Accounting Standards for the first quarter of 2006 had climbed 150% year on year to 673.6 million ($24.73 mln).

The company, a leading fixed-line service provider in Siberia, said this was mostly due to changes in relations with other operators, increased client base and internet traffic, and the development of its mobile phone business.

Company revenue in the first quarter reached 5.28 bln rubles ($193.9 mln), up 3.7% year on year.

EBITDA grew 33.9% from the first quarter of 2005 to 2.15 bln ($79 mln), while expenditure declined 5.6 % to 3.89 bln (143 mln).

SibirTelecom is Russia's third largest fixed-line telecoms operator by installed capacity, with 3.4 million active lines, and in terms of revenue. The company's area of operations covers about 29% of the country's territory, and 14% of its population. Market capitalization stands at around $1bln.

In addition to fixed-line and mobile phone services, SibirTelecom's operations include data communication and internet, audio broadcasting, and telegraph services.
