* Defending champion Russia beat Sweden 2:1 in the final of the Euro Hockey Tour, an unofficial European championships involving Europe's top four teams. Finland beat the Czech Republic 3:2 in the bronze-medal match

* At the 2006 European wrestling championship in Greco-Roman, female and freestyle in Moscow:

- Russia took first place in the unofficial team standings with a total of 11 gold, two silver and four bronze medals (6/0/1 in freestyle, 1/1/2 in Greco-Roman, and 4/1/1 in female)

* CSKA Moscow beat defending champion Maccabi Tel Aviv 73:69 in the Euroleague final in Prague to become the first Russian team to take Europe's top club title since 1971

* Men's junior team CSKA Moscow threepeated at Europe's top basketball club junior title, defeating Lithuania's Zalgiris Kaunas 59-55 in the Final Four of the Euroleague junior tournament in Prague

* Chekhovskiye Medvedy Chekhov overturned a 29-36 deficit at the hands of Spain's CBM Valladolid, defeating the Spaniards 32:24 in the second leg of the two-way finals of the Men's Cup Winners' Cup tournament at home for a 71:70 aggregate victory

* At the 2006 European artistic gymnastics championships in Volos, Greece (through May 7)

- Anna Grudko won the gold in the vault competition with 14.362 points. Olga Sherbatykh of Ukraine took silver, and Germany's Katja Abel finished third

- The Russian team won the bronze in the women's team competition with a total of 173.375 points in the four events. Defending champion Romania surrendered its title, losing by 0.1 point to Italy.

* Russia won gold and bronze at the 2006 European rafting championships, involving Europe's 200 top performers and being held for the first time in Russia, in the southern region of Adygea on the Belay River in the Caucasus

* At the 2006 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Bremen, Germany:

- The Russian men's team took sixth place, losing to the Czech Republic 1:3 in the fifth-place match. China retained the title by defeating Korea 3:0 in the final. Germany and Hong Kong, which lost in the semifinals, took bronze

- The Russian women's team beat the Netherlands 3:1 to take 13th place. China won gold, beating Hong Kong 3:1 in the final. Japan and Belarus took bronze

* Russian mini-football champion Dinamo Moscow lost to Spanish champion Boomerang Interviu Madrid 3:6 in the away first leg of the two-way 2006 UEFA Futsal Cup finals. The second leg is set for Moscow on May 7

* At the $600,000 J&S Cup WTA tennis tournament in Warsaw, Poland (through May 7)

- Yelena Likhovtseva advanced to the second round of singles by defeating Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 7:5, 4:6, 6:1

- Anna Chakvetadze beat Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Montenegro 7:5, 6:3 in the first round

- Anastasiya Myskina, seeded No. 6 for the tournament, failed to advance to the second round in singles, losing to unseeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 4:6, 6:4, 4:6

- Galina Voskoboyeva lost to Tatiana Perebiynis of Ukraine 3:6, 6:4, 4:6 in the first round of singles

- Maria Kirilenko failed to advance to the second round of singles, losing to former world No. 1 Martina Hingis of Switzerland 5:7, 6:7

* Nadezhda Petrova rose one place to fourth in the singles rankings announced Monday by the WTA, the governing body of women's professional tennis. Three other Russians are ranked in the top 10: Maria Sharapova (3), Yelena Dementieva (9), and Svetlana Kuznetsova (10)

* VBM-SGAU Samara clinched the national women's basketball SuperLeague, beating UGMK Yekaterinburg 89:77 away in the third leg of the best-of-five finals.

Dinamo Moscow won bronze by defeating Spartak Moscow Region 80:74 away in the third leg of the best-of-five bronze-medal tie

* Dinamo Moscow beat Zarechye Odintsovo, 3:1 (25:11, 20:25, 25:17, 26:24) at home in the first leg of the best-of-five finals of the Russian women's volleyball championship.

Dinamo Moscow Region beat Uralochka-NMTK Sverdlovsk Region in the first leg of the best-of-five bronze-medal tie, 3-2 (20:25, 20:25, 25:20, 25:21, 22:20) at home.

The remaining final and bronze-medal legs are set for May 2, 6 (May 7 and May 11 if necessary).
