MOSCOW, April 28 (RIA Novosti) - Two police officers were killed in a shootout while trying to detain burglars early Friday morning in the south of Moscow, a police source said.
The source said the officers entered an apartment building following a telephone call reporting an ongoing burglary, and came under automatic fire.
"One police officer was killed at the scene, and the other was wounded and died while being taken to the hospital," he said, adding that the surviving officer had said there were six assailants.
Moscow police have launched a search for the killers, he said.
