MINSK, April 26 (RIA Novosti) - Czech, British, and Latvian ambassadors arrived in Minsk Wednesday to observe a 3,000-strong rally organized by the Belarusian opposition outside the capital's Academy of Sciences building.

The protest, timed for the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the world's worst nuclear accident, drew a crowd of about 3,000 people holding Ukrainian and EU flags, chanting "Long Live Belarus!" and "Freedom!" and expressing support for Alexander Milinkevich, the main opposition leader.

The protest was sanctioned by city authorities.

Earlier, Alexander Lebedko, leader of the United Civic Party, was reported missing. He had planned to take part in the protest, but disappeared on his way to the rally.

The Belarusian Interior Ministry said it had no information on Lebedko's whereabouts.
