PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKI, April 23 (RIA Novosti) - A second plane of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has delivered relief aid to the northern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East hit by a powerful earthquake, the ministry's press office said Sunday.

The Il-76 plane delivered more than 32 tons of various cargoes to Kamchatka's Koryak area, including food supplies, heaters, diesel generators and other necessities, the ministry said.

The ministry's first plane delivered 17 tons of humanitarian aid to the disaster area on Saturday.

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 points on the Richter scale hit the Koryak area on the Kamchatka Peninsula April 20, injuring at least 37 people. Tremor aftershocks of Richter magnitudes of about 5.5 points damaged infrastructure in the towns of Tilichiki and Korf, including residential buildings, social facilities and the local airport's runway.

An emergency situation has been declared in the area. More than a thousand people have been involved in efforts to eliminate the effects of the earthquake, the ministry said.

In the last twenty-four hours, 261 people, including 145 children, have been evacuated from the disaster area. Evacuation will continue, the ministry said.
