* Nadezhda Petrova won her second WTA title in two weeks on Sunday, beating third-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the final of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, South Carolina 6:3, 4:6, 6:1.

Last weekend, Petrova won the WTA tournament in Amelia Island, Florida, defeating Francesca Schiavone of Italy in the final 6:4, 6:4.

* Marat Safin failed to advance to the finals of the men's singles at the IV Open de Tenis Comunidad Valenciana ATP tennis tournament in Valencia, Spain, losing to Nicolas Almagro of Spain 2:6, 6:2, 4:6. Almagro, who advanced to the main draw through qualification phase, won his first title Sunday by defeating Gilles Simon of France 6:2, 6:3 in the final

* Nikolai Davydenko remains world No. 6 in the new ATP rankings. Four other Russians are ranked in the top 50: Igor Andreyev (28), Dmitry Tursunov (33), Mikhail Yuzhny (38), and Marat Safin (49)

* Maria Sharapova rose one place to No. 3 in the new WTA rankings. Nadezhda Petrova climbed two places to No. 5. Two other Russians are ranked in the top 10: Yelena Dementyeva (9) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (10)

* Cyclist Olga Slyusareva won silver in the women's 25-km points race and the bronze in the 10-km scratch at the 2006 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Bordeaux, France.

* Ak Bars Kazan won the Russian hockey championship title, defeating Avangard Omsk 3:1 away in the third game of the best-of-five SuperLeague finals.
