Russia to meet Ukraine's demand on aid delivery to Moldovan breakaway region

MOSCOW, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian convoy will deliver humanitarian aid to Moldova's breakaway region of Transdnestr along the route and within the timeframe proposed by Ukraine, a Russian Foreign Ministry official said Thursday.

Referring to Ukraine's demand Thursday that the convoy of Russian Emergency Situations Ministry trucks change its route and travel only by night, Mikhail Kamynin said: "Moscow regrets that the demand is not conducive to the prompt delivery of aid [to the Transdnestr Region]."

"However, given the importance of the humanitarian aid for Transdnestr, Russia will deliver it along the route and within the timeframe proposed by Ukraine," Kamynin said, adding that the Foreign Ministry had sent a note outlining Moscow's position on the matter to Ukraine March 23.

Transdnestr has reported huge economic losses and is facing a humanitarian catastrophe since Moldova imposed new customs regulations in early March requiring that all Transdnestr goods bound for Ukraine have an official Moldovan stamp.
