MOSCOW, March 19 (RIA Novosti) - Criminal proceedings into suspected construction neglect were launched following a tunnel roof collapse in Moscow's subway Sunday.
"Criminal proceedings have been initiated as pursuant to ... Article 216 of the Russian Penal Code (violation of safety rules during construction works)," Moscow prosecutors said.
They said the collapse had presumably been triggered by neglect in mounting a billboard on the surface immediately above the tunnel and that the contractor had no official permit to do the work.
A beam of concrete fell from the tunnel in the northern section of the Zamoskvoretskaya subway line, crashing onto a moving train. Two of the train's carriages were affected, but none of the passengers was hurt.
