PARIS, March (RIA Novosti) - A commission of the Council of Europe's statutory organ has decided against filing a report on freedom of the press in Russia at its session in Paris, Russia's chief delegate to the commission said Wednesday.

Konstantin Kosachev, Russia's senior delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), said the PACE Monitoring Commission had decided that "there is little point in filing separate reports on freedom of the press in Russia."

The commission decided that "it would be better for the issue to be discussed as part of a scheduled report on how Russia is meeting the obligations it assumed on joining the Council of Europe," said Kosachev, who is also the head of the international affairs committee in Russia's lower house of parliament.

According to Kosachev, the commission's decision is advisory, while a final decision would be made by the PACE Bureau on March 16.
