WASHINGTON, D.C., March 7 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian foreign minister denied rumors Tuesday that Moscow had offered to Tehran some new, compromise options for the enrichment of Iranian uranium on Russian soil.

"There is no compromise new proposal," Lavrov told journalists after a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington, D.C.

Lavrov said the original offer had been welcomed by the international community as a possible way out of the international standoff over Iran's nuclear program and that Russia was working toward its resolution together with China as well as with the EU trio of France, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The Russian minister also said that small-scale enrichment of nuclear fuel on Iranian soil was not under consideration.

Many countries, led by the U.S., suspect Iran of pursuing a covert nuclear weapons program and want the UN to impose sanctions unless Tehran abandons nuclear research as well as uranium enrichment activities.

Officials in Tehran have consistently denied the accusations, saying they are trying to obtain nuclear fuel for civilian use only.
