Russian gas price for Ukraine is fair - Putin

PRAGUE, March 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is charging a fair price for its natural gas exports to neighboring Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.

"We did not fix the price, but agreed on a transition to the European formula of price calculation, which is linked not with Russia's wishes, but with world oil prices," Putin said after talks in Prague with his Czech counterpart, Vaclav Klaus.

He also said Russia and the Czech Republic could hold talks on prolonging long-term contracts on Russian natural gas supplies.

"There are no obstacles to holding such consultations," he said.

The current agreement on Russian gas supplies to the Czech Republic will remain in force until 2013.

At the meeting in Prazsky Hrad, an ancient castle in the capital's center and the official residence of the Czech leader, Putin also invited Klaus to visit Russia.
