MOSCOW, February 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has no plans to recall its ambassador to Georgia, a deputy foreign minister said Thursday. Grigory Karasin called media reports that the ambassador could be recalled "absolutely groundless speculation".

The diplomat said Moscow was seriously concerned by the Georgian parliament's recent adoption of the resolution on the self-proclaimed Republic of South Ossetia, which criticized the work of Russian peacekeepers in the region and charged Russia with attempts at annexing the breakaway republic, home to a large contingent of Russian citizens.

The resolution called for the government to review the Sochi agreements of June 24, 1992 and to begin steps to replace the current peacekeeping contingent with an effective international one.

"We expect the Georgian leadership to take a more balanced and responsible position," Karasin said.
