MOSCOW, February 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's no.1 independent crude producer said Wednesday that it had started producing Euro 3-compliant gasoline following a refinery upgrade.
LUKoil said the production of gasoline conforming to Euro 3 requirements for exhaust emissions had been made possible thanks to the launch of a catalytic cracking unit at a refinery in the central Russian region of Nizhny Novgorod.
The new facility, using catalysts to enhance molecule breaking, will produce some 440,000 metric tons of Euro 3-compliant gasoline annually, or 50% of the total gas output, which last year came to 1.6 million metric tons, LUKoil said.
Euro 3 restricts hydrocarbon emissions to 0.2 g/km, oxides of nitrogen emissions to 0.15 g/km and carbon monoxide to 2.3 g/km.
