BISHKEK, February 14 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Orlova) - The president of Kyrgyzstan said Tuesday that his country should transform itself into a self-sufficient state with great opportunities.

"We need to get rid of the philosophy of a poor country and turn it into the philosophy of a self-sufficient country," Kurmanbek Bakiyev told a government session on the results of 2005.

Bakiyev, who came to power following a popular uprising last year, demanded that the government develop "a real program for the year aimed at solving issues that could be settled without requiring a considerable amount of resources."

"I believe we need to rely on our real possibilities and real resources," the president said. "We need to turn our 'minuses' into our 'pluses.'"

He said Kyrgyzstan was rich in natural resources, which must be used, including alabaster and oil.
