Russia nears quarterfinals in Davis Cup

MOSCOW, February 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's national men's tennis team took a 2-0 lead over the Netherlands in day one of the first round of the Davis Cup World Group and needs only one victory in the remaining three matches to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the first match of the day, played on the indoor court of Amsterdam's RAI Convention Center, Dmitry Tursunov defeated Raemon Sluiter 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. Nikolay Davydenko won his match against Melle van Gemerden 7-6, 7-5, 6-4.

A doubles match between Nikolay Davydenko/Igor Andreev and Raemon Sluiter/John van Lottum is set to take place Saturday.

The tournament will end Sunday with two singles matches.
