TAORMINA (Sicily), February 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's defense minister made a proposal Friday to NATO on exchanging data on aircraft and coordinating air traffic control.

Sergei Ivanov told an informal meeting of the Russia-NATO Council that Russia saw great potential in coordinating air traffic control equipment and exchanging information about aircraft with NATO.

Ivanov, who is also deputy prime minister, cited a successful cooperation experiment in the air space above Poland.

"The experiment at coordination centers of air traffic control in Moscow and Warsaw, which was conducted last September, indicated how effective our cooperation was in identifying possible terrorist hijacking and neutralizing the consequences," Ivanov said.
