MUNICH, February 5 (RIA Novosti) - NATO and the Collective Security Treaty Organization should join efforts to fight terrorism and rebuild Afghanistan, the Russian defense minister said Sunday. Sergei Ivanov who is also Russia's deputy prime minister spoke at the 42nd international security conference in Munich.

Cooperation between NATO and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan) may well contribute to the effective partnership between Russia and NATO in fighting terrorism and restoring Afghanistan, Ivanov said.

"There is no doubt that cooperation in this field will be beneficial for both organizations and will demonstrate the unity in solving security problems in Central Asia," Ivanov said.

The Russian defense minister also said Russia was paying special attention to NATO's transformation and its adaptation to solving new problems.

'We hope that our partners will adhere to military restraint," the Russian defense minister said.
