ISLAMABAD, January 28 (RIA Novosti, Yevgeny Pakhamov) - Bilateral relations between Russia and Pakistan must be made more active, Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said.

"The potential of Russian-Palestinian relations is not yet being fully realized," Aziz told Russian journalists and academics in Islamabad Friday.

Moscow and Islamabad have strong potential for cooperation in the economic, energy, and defense spheres, he said.

"We can actively cooperate in the oil and gas sector, in electric power, and in the development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes."

Pakistan's location and its ports on the Arabian Sea make the country ideal for goods transit from Russia and Central Asia to regional and global markets, the premier said, adding that Russia and Pakistan continue to actively cooperate in the fight against illegal drug trafficking in the region, and against terrorism.

Aziz said he highly rated the potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in which Pakistan has observer status. "This is a platform for cooperation in economic and political spheres, and in security," he said.
