ST. PETERSBURG, January 15 (RIA Novosti, Anna Novak) - The inauguration ceremony of Vladimir Torlopov, whose candidacy for the post of president of the Komi Republic in northwest Russia was approved by the republic's State Council on December 7, 2005, was held Sunday in Syktyvkar.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Torlopov said that despite current difficulties, the Komi Republic was developing dynamically. He stressed the need to develop infrastructure in rural areas and solve problems in the health sector.
The head of the Komi Republic said he had placed under his personal control the situation in the Yeletsky village located 50 km from Vorkuta.
On the night of January 13-14, 42 residential houses, a kindergarten, an orphanage and other buildings were left without heating in temperatures below 30 degrees Centigrade after a hurricane damaged a boiler house. Repair works are currently underway to restore heating.
