TBILISI, January 13 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia's energy sector received some $132 million in state and international financing in 2005, the country's prime minister said Friday.

Zurab Nogaideli, together with Energy Minister Nika Gilauri, announced results of the energy sector in 2005 and also outlined plans for its development in 2006, with a focus on increasing the sector's capacity and reliability.

Gilauri said Georgia had restored 800 megawatts of electricity generating capacity and constructed an additional 400MW in 2005.

The minister said key projects in 2006 would be the construction of a new 330-kiloVolt electric power line between Georgia and Armenia, the conclusion of repair work at thermal- and hydro-power generation plants, and the improvement of energy efficiency in the country.

Gilauri also said that several state-run energy companies would be privatized in 2006, including United Energy Distribution Company of Georgia (UEDC), and Adjara Energy Company, along with six hydroelectric power plants.
