Ukrainian parliament to review report on energy supplies

KIEV, January 7 (RIA Novosti) - The Ukrainian parliament will review on January 10 a government report on energy supplies to the country, including natural gas, Supreme Rada Chairman Vladimir Litvin said Saturday.

He said many politicians in the country thought the form and the content of recent agreements with Russia were not satisfactory for Ukraine.

According to Litvin, parliament will suggest that "the government and officials connected to the gas sector should study the documents before signing them."

Litvin said the gas allegedly purchased by Ukraine from Turkmenistan in reality belonged to certain Russian businesses, and that parliament would take this fact into account.

The heads of Gazprom and Naftogaz signed Wednesday a 5-year contract to supply Russian natural gas to Ukraine at $230 per 1,000 cu m through RosUkrEnergo, which is owned by a subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom and Raiffeisen Bank, and transports gas from Central Asia to Ukraine.
