MOSCOW, January 1 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom has cut natural gas supplies to Ukraine by 120 million cubic meters a day, Sergei Kupriyanov, the Russian energy giant's press secretary, said Sunday.

"Supplies to Ukraine were reduced by 120 million cubic meters a day, exports [to Europe] are being carried out in full," Kupriyanov told journalists.

He said that whether Ukraine tapped gas would be clear in the second half of the day from gas pressure indicators at gas-measuring plants on Ukraine's border with European countries.

Kupriyanov said gas supplies via gas-measuring stations and several compressor plants had been reduced or stopped, but added that exports to Europe were being delivered in full.

"We expect Ukraine to fulfill its promise to ensure gas transit to Europe," he said.

At the same time, the Gazprom spokesman said the company was doing everything possible for European countries to receive the full amount of all natural gas they were entitled to.

Kupriyanov said no progress had been achieved in the dispute so far, and when the contract would be signed depended solely on Ukraine.
