MOSCOW, December 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Security Council said Thursday it had not held any nuclear negotiations with Iran, denying Western media reports.

"No telephone conversation was held on the issue between the Russian Security Council and the Iranian side," a Security Council official said.

Earlier, Western media said Russian officials and Ali Larijani, the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, held talks by phone on the nuclear issue. The media reported about an alleged conversation with Russia's Vice Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov, though it was later changed to Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov.

The Russian Defense Ministry also refuted the reports. "There were no talks on this issue at all," the ministry said.
