* The Russian Defense Ministry said a sea-based Bulava strategic ballistic missile was launched from a submerged Typhoon-class nuclear submarine and successfully hit its dummy target at the Kura test site on the Kamchatka Peninsula

* Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said the Bulava missile system could be deployed by the navy in 2008

* President Vladimir Putin proposed to send a Russian military contingent to Sudan to participate in a UN peacekeeping operation

* President Vladimir Putin signed a resolution approving the total number of military officers responsible for civil defense at 19,500

* Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia was closely monitoring NATO's deployment plans on the territory of its new members

* Ukrainian Economics and Trade Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said

Ukraine would review lease rates for the Russian Black Sea Fleet bases in the autonomy of the Crimea
