MOSCOW, December 20 (RIA Novosti) - The joint fight against terrorism is one of the main tasks facing Russian security-related bodies, their partners and allies, President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.
"The fight against the terrorist threat remains one of the key tasks," Putin said during a meeting dedicated to the Day of security-related agencies.
According to the president, the fight against terrorism demands skillful use of the whole arsenal of operative, technical and analytical resources.
Aside from the fight against terrorism, security-related bodies are responsible for a wide range of other complex and important state tasks, Putin said. Their direct responsibility together with law enforcement agencies "is to increase the effectiveness of measures against organized crime, drug-trafficking and corruption," he added.
"It is not simply a necessary pre-condition for Russia's economic and social well-being," the President said. "Lowering crime levels in the country promotes the image of Russia on the international arena and increases its business and investment attractiveness."
