TBILISI, December 16 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia hopes to attract more Russian investment in the country, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said Friday.

"Russia currently holds the first place in investments [in Georgia], and we would like it to remain the steady leader," Saakashvili told Russian Transportation Minister Igor Levitin, a cochairman of the bilateral intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation.

Levitin said the Georgian president had praised the commission's work.

According to Georgian data, bilateral trade stood at $410 million in January-October 2005, a 51% increase year-on-year.

Russia's Vneshtorgbank (Foreign Trade Bank) is planning to implement projects worth $1 billion in Georgia in the sectors of natural gas and petrochemicals, transportation, and tourism.
