MOSCOW, December 15 (RIA Novosti) - An inter-departmental working group has approved the Russian-Finnish 300-million euro project of the construction of a high voltage cable under the Gulf of Finland and submitted it to the Russian government, the Industry and Energy Ministry said Thursday.

"The underwater linking of the power systems of the two countries will mark an important stage in the expansion of Russian-Finnish electricity cooperation," the ministry said.

The 150-km long cable will annually supply 8.7 billion kWh from the Leningrad Region to Finland. The project is expected to recoup expenses in 6-9 years.
