TBLISI, December 14 (RIA Novosti) - The European Commission is to finance a two million euro aid program for victims of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict, the Novosti Georgia news agency said Wednesday.

Through the program, the commission will finance humanitarian aid, including providing food for 35,000 of the poorest residents of Abkhazia and to refugees.

The program also includes a healthcare project for women, support for a rehabilitation center for displaced persons, and renovation of housing of Georgian refugees who returned to Abkhazia.

Abkhazia won effective independence from Georgia in a bloody 1992-93 war following the breakup of the Soviet Union. The hostilities left tens of thousands of people dead and forced about 300,000 others to flee their homes.
