MOSCOW, December 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will have a strong national soccer team capable of competing with the strongest teams in the world, the president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) said Friday.

"We will have a [strong] team," Vitaly Mutko said. "I am sure that we can find a way out of the difficult situation that our team is currently in. But we need a little time to do this."

He said it was unacceptable that the Russian soccer team failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Mutko said the primary task now was to train and prepare Russian coaches and young players, who would be able to defend the colors of the Russian flag as part of the national team.

"The RFU plans to build three all-Russian centers for training coaches and players in Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, and, probably, St. Petersburg," Mutko added.
