Below is a summary of the main security-related events in the North Caucasus on December 9, 2005

* The first deputy speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament, Oleg Morozov, said the parliamentary commission investigating the school siege in the North Ossetian capital Beslan in September 2004 would make public its report by late December

* The Interior Ministry of Ingushetia said a large-scale search for suspected members of illegal armed units, weapons and drugs would be launched in the North Caucasus republic

* Yury Ketov, the Kabardino-Balkaria prosecutor, said criminal proceedings were being launched against 59 suspects in the terrorist attack on the city of Nalchik in October

* The Interior Ministry of Kabardino-Balkaria said three suspects in the terrorist attack on Nalchik in October had been detained in the republic and a cache with a homemade explosive device and ammunition had been discovered there

* One serviceman died and another one was wounded after an explosive device detonated in the Chechen city of Argun

* The Russian Interior Ministry said the Interior Troops of the Southern Federal District had killed 50 militants in Chechnya, Daghestan and Kabardino-Balkaria in 2005
