HANOI, November 27 (RIA Novosti) - A group of ships of Russia's Pacific Fleet started a friendly visit to Vietnam Sunday. Representatives of the local administration and military command, the Russian Embassy in Vietnam and the Consulate General in Da Nang met the Russian sailors.

The agenda of the visit envisions a number of protocol and friendly meetings between the command of the detachment and the local army and administrative leadership, and sports competitions with the local military.

On November 31 and December 1 the commander of the detachment, Vice Admiral Sergei Avramenko, is to visit the city of Ho Chi Minh, where he will lay a wreath to the monument to the Russian sailors of the Diana cruiser, which arrived at the port of Saigon for repairs after a battle with Japanese ships in the Yellow Sea in 1904. Forced to stay there for more than a year, the crew lost eight sailors, who died of tropical diseases.

The visit to Vietnam, which will last until December 2, is the final visit in a series, which included Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. The Russian sailors participated in the Indra-2005 military exercises with India in the Bay of Bengal and in the Passex exercises with Thailand.

After an almost 3 month-long voyage, the group of Russian ships will return to Vladivostok, the main base of the Pacific Fleet, on December 14.
