* The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said a 5-magnitude earthquake had occurred in Daghestan. No deaths or damage were reported

* An Azerbaijani national suspected of committing serious crimes in Ingushetia was killed in the republic's capital Nazran, a source in the law enforcement agencies reported

* A source in the Kabardino-Balkarian police said a cache of weapons stolen during an attack on the republic's drug control department in 2004 had been discovered

* A high-ranking police officer said special attention would be paid to protecting documents and polling stations at the November 27 parliamentary elections in Chechnya

* The head of Chechnya's election commission, Ismail Baikhanov, said there had been violations of the law during the parliamentary election campaign that ended today in the republic

* A police source said two bags with weapons, ammunition and explosives had been discovered in the Stavropol territory in Russia's south
