KIEV, November 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Ukrainian government endorsed a draft agreement with NATO on the destruction of Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS), light weapons, small arms, and ammunition, the country's parliament said Friday.

The government authorized Deputy Defense Minister Volodymyr Tereshchenko to sign the agreement given that all the equipment needed to destroy the armaments would be granted as humanitarian aid.

In February, the North Atlantic Alliance announced the beginning of the destruction of unnecessary weaponry in Ukraine on U.S. initiative.

A total of 1.5 million units of small arms and light weapons, as well as 133,000 metric tons of ammunition are to be destroyed as part of the 12-year project.
