Russia puts temporary ban on Polish crop product imports

MOSCOW, November 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight has decided to impose temporary restrictions on imports of crop products from Poland since November 14, 2005, the Russian Agriculture Ministry said Thursday.

This decision was made following Poland's repeated violations of Russia's phytosanitary demands, the ministry said, citing "systematic supplies of crop products with fake Polish phytosanitary certificates, i.e. products that had not undergone quarantine phytosanitary control."

The federal service has warned that fake certificates provide no guarantee of safety for imported products.

The service has informed the Polish side that given the circumstances, trade will be suspended until Poland ends its violations of Russian and international phytosanitary regulations.
